Founded in 1990, Kevin O’Brien Studio’s goal has always been to make things a little better for everyone who comes into contact with their pillows. At the beginning they made all their products within sight of Kevin O’Brien’s drawing table in the studio. O’Brien would draw the design onto clear film, expose it onto a silk screen, then print it onto the velvet, cook it in a large homemade oven, and then scrape off some of the velvet to reveal the image. They would then hand paint the fabric, cut and sew it. O’Brien felt that this was the way to make sure everything was well and fairly made. Since then, Kevin O’Brien Studio has reached out to Nepal, Viet Nam and India to continue making their collections richer and deeper, with new ideas being created as they learn more about these intriguing places.
